Aspide Medical Receives FDA Clearance of SURGIMESH® XB Mesh
August 18, 2008 – BG Medical / PRnewswire (Chicago, IL)
SURGIMESH® XB is an advanced technology adhesion barrier surgical mesh indicated for use in hernias with exposure to the viscera – a procedure performed in over 450,000 patients annually in the USA. Its novel platform technology is based upon the integration of a thin non-adhesive barrier of silicone to one surface of a random network of non-woven polypropylene micro-fibers creating a very flexible yet durable dual function hernia repair mesh. Aspide Medicals development of this unique platform technology results in a mesh that in clinical use is an absolute barrier to visceral adhesion on one surface while providing complete tissue integration on the other surface to produce hernia repairs with very high strength and patient comfort.
The use of Aspide Medicals advanced, dual function SURGIMESH® XB provides today’s clinicians with a broad spectrum of configurations for minimally invasive open and laparoscopic hernia repairs. It is the first absolute adhesion barrier mesh composed of non-woven polypropylene microfibers available for clinical use in the US hernia market. Clinical experience has demonstrated that SURGIMESH® XB significantly improves upon current mesh offerings by absolutely inhibiting visceral adhesion formation, providing high levels of tissue integration with minimal scarring and increasing patient comfort with low inflammation tissue integration.
